Social Media Policy
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for the appropriate, safe, and respectful use of social media by Niagara Soccer Association members, including staff, volunteers, coaches, players, match officials, and affiliated clubs. This policy ensures that all online communication reflects NSA’s values of respect, integrity, inclusion, and sportsmanship.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- All NSA representatives
- Member clubs and teams
- Players, parents/guardians, and volunteers
- Anyone representing or identifying themselves with NSA online
It covers use of all social media platforms, including but not limited to:
Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp groups, Discord, and forums.

3. Guiding Principles
All social media activity related to NSA should:
- Promote a positive image of soccer and the Association
- Demonstrate respect for all participants
- Protect the privacy and safety of minors
- Follow Ontario Soccer, Canada Soccer, and Safe Sport standards
- Avoid conflict, harassment, discrimination, or abuse
4. Acceptable Use
Members are encouraged to use social media to:
- Celebrate achievements and events
- Promote programs and opportunities
- Share positive stories and highlights
- Build community engagement
When posting:
- Be accurate and truthful
- Be respectful in tone and language
- Credit photographers or sources when required
- Obtain consent before posting identifiable images of minors
5. Prohibited Conduct
The following is not permitted when referencing NSA, its clubs, or participants:
- Harassment, bullying, or intimidation
- Discriminatory or offensive content
- Public criticism of referees, players, coaches, or officials
- Sharing confidential or internal information
- Posting images or videos that could embarrass or harm participants
- Political or commercial endorsements on official NSA channels without approval
6. Privacy and Child Protection
- Written consent must be obtained before posting identifiable images of minors.
- Do not post personal contact information.
- Avoid tagging youth players’ personal accounts.
- Messaging between adults and minors should follow Safe Sport communication guidelines.
7. Official NSA Accounts
Only authorized individuals may post on official NSA platforms.
Authorized administrators must:
- Follow brand and communication standards
- Ensure content aligns with NSA values
- Monitor comments and remove inappropriate content
- Report concerning posts or incidents to NSA leadership
8. Personal Accounts
Individuals may identify themselves as part of NSA; however:
- Personal views must not be presented as official NSA positions
- Users must not use NSA logos or branding without permission
- Conduct online should reflect expected standards of behavior
9. Reporting Concerns
If a member encounters inappropriate or harmful content related to NSA:
- Take screenshots for documentation
- Report to NSA administration immediately
- Do not engage publicly or escalate online disputes
10. Consequences of Violations
Violations of this policy may result in:
- Removal of content
- Warning or education requirement
- Suspension of privileges
- Discipline under NSA or Ontario Soccer policies
- Referral to Safe Sport or disciplinary committees
11. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as required to reflect best practices, safeguarding standards, and regulatory changes.
